The Professional Skills Programme - PSP Academy

(SSPS - 4th yr UG and PGT students only)

(Education - PGT students only)

The purpose of PSP Academy, a 3 day programme, is to facilitate the improvement of your professional and employability skills, ensuring your preparation for entry into the office environment and to develop the attributes you need excel in your career. This will be done by exploring, developing and applying concepts via three key themes:

  • Working With People & Teams – working in teams, team conflict, effective communication and assertiveness & office politics.

    • Improving Productivity – maps of reality, excelling in the workplace

    Understanding & Articulating Your Strengths – developing external awareness, emotional intelligence, presentation skills, understanding your personal self and articulating your strengths to current & future employers.


The programme will feature various ways of coaching and learning:

  • Student facilitation on the concepts and themes discussed;
  • Team challenges and role playing of real-life situations/case studies followed by team feedback and brainstorming;
  • Student presentations;
  • Practical problem solving exercises;
  • Self-assessment activities and personalised feedbac

Programme Schedule

Friday 15th November: 0900 - 1800

Saturday 16th November: 0900 - 1800

Sunday 17th November: 0900 - 1800

(participants will be informed of room locations nearer the time)

Participation is free.

Note:

  • This programme is for undergraduate and postgraduate taught students in the SSPS only. The course is ILM certified. ILM is widely recognised for offering excellent courses.
  • If you register for this Programme you must attend all three days of the programme. Those who do not will not qualify for ILM certification and will not be permitted to continue the programme.
  • Please ensure that your attendence on the programme does not impact on your attendance for your exisiting scheduled lectures and tutorials.

Dress Code:

Normal university dress code applies.

To apply please click register and answer the few short questions provided. The answers you provide will be used to select the most suitable students for the programme, i.e. those students who demonstrate how they have actively engaged in their personal and professional development to date and have the most clearly defined motivations for attending the programme.

If you are unsuccessful in your application for this programme, or you are unable to attend this programme on the dates advertised, further PSP classes are scheduled to run over the next few months. Dates will be advertised nearer the time at which stage you will be able to apply again.
